My experience has been varied:
-
Computer Software
I've worked with computers since they used punched cards. I've used main frames, mini computers, personal computers, and even embedded micro controllers. I've used Fortran, Basic, Pascal, Modula-2, Visual Basic, Delphi, and JavaScript and dabbled in C, Java, and PHP.
I've worked for major national companies, small start-ups, and by myself. I've worked at home, telecommuted for over 20 years. At one point I managed a team of 12 people, responsible for hiring and firing.
I've written software for the aerospace industry (image processing for an early LandSat satellite), but mostly statistical software for the hospital laboratory.
When not writing software for money, I've written a variety of software for my own use. Some of it is available for free here
-
Photography
I've taken photographs for decades. At one point, I was a semi-professional sports photographer. I've taken more
nature photographs than I can count, as well as
art photographs. I've written my own suite of image enhancing software.
-
Electronics
While I'm not an electrical engineer, I've designed and built quite a few electronic projects over the years, from pre-amps to amplifiers.
-
Machine Shop
When I became fascinated with Stirling Engines, I set up a machine shop. I've used it to create a variety of
unusual machines, gadgets and tools
(canoe, guitars, ball chain machine, etc). I've also created molds and cast various objects.
