Flame Scallop
The Flame Scallop is not really a scallop: it
is a clam. It's main claim to fame is the color of its flesh. The
photographs are quite accurate with respect to color.
Here are the details of the "hinge".
Details of the "eyelashes".
Here the "foot" can be seen.
The "foot" can reach out and grab
onto surfaces, like the side of the tank.
Details of the inside of the clam. Notice the
white "bottom" of the foot. The "thread"
going up and to the right attached the clam to the side of the
tank. I never saw how these threads were created.
Details of the filtering system inside the
clam. The clam feeds by filtering the water which passes by and
eating the things which it finds in its filters.
